Conversion: Charts and Objects

For each image or group of images the Wizard will prompt the user for the type of image. The Wizard currently classifies images as DECORATIVE, INFORMATIVE or CHART. Decorative and Informative images are covered in the previous section. If the image is a chart, whether created in another Office application or imported as an object, select CHART from the image type menu then select NEXT to continue.

Charts Created Within the Project:

When a chart has been created by using the chart wizard function or imported from another Office application, the Wizard interprets data values and requires only the entering of a short and long description for the chart.

The SHORT DESCRIPTION would be the title or a brief description of what the chart is representing. The LONG DESCRIPTION would be a more detailed description of the chart. When creating these descriptions be sure that the text represents the image so if the user has images turned off, they will understand what is being represented. Since the chart was developed in an Office application, the Wizard automatically recognizes the data values. The datatable information is automatically filled in.

Charts created in Office applications only require a short and long description

Imported Chart Objects:

The most efficient way to create a chart is to use the Chart Wizard option in the Office application, but sometimes information has been saved as an image or other object type and no original datatable is available. These Chart Objects are recognized by the Wizard as images and will be displayed in the Image selection slide during conversion. As with charts that were created within the application, select Chart and then select Next to go to the description screen.

Enter the SHORT DESCRIPTION and LONG DESCRIPTION the same as with a chart created within the application. Additionally, you will need to specify the DATATABLE ROW AND COLUMN information that was used to create the original chart. For the Chart Object in the example below, the datatable contained 1 column (jawbreaker) and 3 rows (inner most, middle, outside). Enter the appropriate data and then select NEXT to continue.

The next screen will prompt for the CHART CATEGORY. Chart Categories are the columns of the datatable. Enter the label for each column on this screen. For long labels, an abbreviated label can be entered as well. For the Chart Object in the example below, the datatable contained 1 column which was "Jawbreaker". Enter the appropriate data and then select NEXT to continue.

Chart objects require datatable information to be entered

The next screen will prompt for the CHART SERIES. Chart Series are the rows of the datatable. Enter the label for each row on this screen. For long labels, an abbreviated label can be entered as well. For the Chart Object in the example below, the datatable contained 3 rows which were inner most, middle, and outside. Enter the appropriate data and then select NEXT to continue.

Next, you will be prompted for the CHART DATA. Chart Data are the values from the datatable. Enter the values for each row and column on this screen. For the Chart Object in the example below, the datatable contained the values of 50 for the inner most, 25 for the middle, and 25 for the outer. Enter the appropriate data and then select NEXT to continue.

Repeat the process as needed with each Chart Object that the Wizard recognizes in the presentation.
